Bozeman is the county seat of Gallatin County, Montana and, as of the 2010 census, has a population just over 37,000, making it one of the largest cities in the state. Bozeman is the principal city in the Bozeman, MT Metropolitan Statistical Area, which has a population just over 97,000. Incorporated in 1883, the city is named after John M. Bozeman, the man responsible for the Bozeman trail.

Original Inhabitants

Once known as the “Valley of the Flowers,” Bozeman was well-traveled by members of various Native American tribes, including the Shoshone, Nez Perce, Blackfeet, Flathead, Crow Nation and Sioux. Bozeman was even graced with the presence of William Clark as he traveled along the Gallatin River from Three Forks.

The Bozeman School District is comprised of Bozeman High School, Chief Joseph Middle School, Sacajewea Middle School, Emily Dickinson Elementary School, Hawthorne Elementary School, Hyalite Elementary School, Irving Elementary School, Longfellow Elementary School, Morning Star Elementary School and Whittier Elementary School. Bozeman is also home to Montana State University.
